As a serial pursuer of creative outlets, I’ve found something worth pursuing long term- architectural design. Getting to this point was adventurous and sometimes confusing but in the end I’ve found that this was the right path all along. Choosing a career at 18 was never in the cards for me and thankfully life has given me the gift of curiosity and a try-anything-once kind of attitude. Without the experience of moving to New York alone as a shy teen I wouldn’t have understood the joys of public transportation (Michigan winters & potholes make me less inclined to enjoy driving). Had I not worked in a kitchen environment that does not value it’s employees, I would not have found a sense of self worth from the trials of making myself heard. Without the experience of living abroad I wouldn’t have understood how to communicate efficiently, create community, or navigate the unknown alone. And finally, without returning to school as an older student, I wouldn’t have experienced the joys of collaboration.
These experiences, amongst so many others, have shown me that if you trust your gut and act with conviction then what follows will inevitably be made clear.
